Home...and Bedrest

Hubby and I finally got to come home today around 2 P.M. My mom got into town and picked D.L.F. up from our friends' house, and we all got to our house at almost the same time. Then Hubby, D.L.F., and I took long naps and Mom went grocery shopping for us. We are so grateful for her being here. She will be able to stay and help out until the end of the week.

I am on complete bedrest for the duration of my pregnancy. This means I can get up to use the bathroom, take a shower, and walk to the table for meals, but the rest of the time I need to be sitting or laying in bed. No going for walks, no cooking, no housework, no lifting anything. This all feels so foreign and unnatural to me. I admit, a day or two of resting in bed will be nice, but I have a feeling it will get old really fast. It will be difficult to be on bedrest when I have a sweet but very active toddler who likes to get into things.

We will hopefully be able to get another ultrasound appointment scheduled for later this week. Most likely it will need to be a transvaginal ultrasound so we can really get a good look at the placenta.

There's still a chance that I could give birth naturally, but that chance is pretty slim. Also, because of the risk of hemmoraging, the doctors probably will not let me go to 40 weeks. A C-section will probably be scheduled around 37 weeks. This is all still up in the air until I can get another ultrasound.

Updated to add: I forgot to mention that Baby is also still in a breech position. From what the doctors said, because of my low-lying placenta/potential placenta previa, Baby is a lot less likely to go head-down.

Meeka, Your theme verse is one of my favorites. May the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, guard you heart in Christ Jesus.
Since you have a little extra time, take another look at Psalm 139. It's another favorite, especially when we don't understand everything God is doing. Miss Swope used to say that understanding the things of God were like looking at the back of a cross-stitch. It may be ugly, but wait til you see the other side!

I'm really sorry to hear that you had to spend your day at the hospital and that now you're on bedrest. I can only imagine that it will get old fast. I will be praying for you! Some of our dear friends had the same thing a year ago. Not ideal, but the baby being happy is obviously the most important!

Bed rest is a good idea. However have cheer... You're only 34 weeks along, so your placenta previa can still move up your uterus, as your belly swells a bit more and the baby gets bigger.

An ultrasound before labor should be able to let you all know if you can deliver vaginally or not. Just as long as the placenta isn't covering the cervix, a vaginal birth is entirely possible, and still safer than a C-section.

We tend to think alike in many areas, so you may already be doing this, but alas:

Make a schedule, or routine, so that being in bed all this time won't drive you nuts. Have a routine for your little one as well.

You may need to utilize children's videos more than you normally would. Also, try to have special toys that he can only play with when he is on your bed with you.

Meanwhile, for you... Get some reading done, watch some of the Discovery Health channel, write in a journal, or better yet, write a book, and sell it on your blog.:-P

Praying for you. Try to stock up on good books and magazines. Watch a bunch of old movies. Try to see if someone can come over a day or two every week to help out some. Even just some prepared meals would be a big help. The most important thing is to follow Dr.'s orders and really remain on bed rest. Housework can be caught up on later on. Everyone close to you will have to lend a hand. It will all work out.

Praying for you! Please try not to get yourself worked up over the possiblity of a c-section. I had to have one for the birth of my second child. It was a scheduled c-seciton, and I have heard that this is much better than an emergency one. The most important thing is that your baby is healthy. In my case, my post-op pain was very very minimal. (I only took a pain med at night for the first four days, then nothing at all.) I was able to resume most normal activities with the exception of heavy lifting and vacuuming within 1 week of coming home from the hospital. I actually had a pretty pleasant experience with my c-section. I really can't complain! The thing that bothered me the most was not being able to drive and lift my toddler for 6 weeks. My oldest DD was only 2 yrs old, but we made it through just fine. It certainly was not the end of the world like some folks would have you believe and it was not the worst thing that could have happened. If I were to have another child, I personally would go for the repeat c-section instead of the vbac.

I was on bedrest for the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. (Due to Pre-Eclampsia) It was difficult to stay entertained, but I really caught up on my reading, tv, and crafts. All that down time kind of made up for the complete lack of time that I had after she was born. ;) I will keep you in my prayers!
